Velix and Fulfill.com Help Brands and 3PLs See the True Cost of Every Shipment

Pattern

Velix is partnering with Fulfill.com to bring carrier invoice reconciliation directly into Fulfill.com's partner portal, so Brands and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) can compare what they're billed against what they actually shipped, catch billing leakage, and make transportation decisions based on real costed data instead of guesswork.

Transportation is one of the largest, most tedious costs for Brands and 3PLs, and most teams still struggle to identify or track what a complete shipment actually costs. When a label prints, you have an expected cost. The real number shows up weeks later on a carrier invoice, broken across base charges, fuel, accessorials, adjustments, and corrections that rarely map back to the shipment, order, SKU, customer, or service decision that created them.

That gap creates a disconnect between operations and finance work and data used to make decisions. Operations can see how a shipment moved, but not always what it ultimately cost. Finance can see what was invoiced, but often lacks the operational context to understand why. And when the need to dig deeper arises, say, to break out cost by lane or pull past accessorial charges for a one-off analysis, it can take weeks of manually working back through invoices to get an answer.

The result is fragmented transportation data that makes simple questions difficult to answer: What does it actually cost to ship this SKU? Which customers, lanes, or services are driving margin erosion? Are carriers performing well when both cost and customer experience are considered? Where are we consistently paying more than expected?

For Brands, that limits how well you understand fulfillment cost and shipping decisions. For 3PLs, it goes further: carrier costs have to be understood and attributed to customers correctly before they can rebill them to end customers.

Why we're partnering

Fulfill.com is making a free carrier evaluation available through its partner portal to eligible Brands and 3PLs.

Customer can now submit their carrier invoices, shipment data, and rate cards (if applicable), and receive a shipment report and audit summary showing:

  • Charge trends
  • True cost performance report by carrier
  • Discrepancies or optimization opportunities
  • Where recurring billing leakage or savings opportunities exist
  • Unique insights tailored to each business and service offering

Think of it as a practical starting point, one shared view of carrier costs and performance that finance, transportation, fulfillment, and account-management teams can all work from instead of relying on assumptions.

“When I ran a 3PL, carrier reconciliation was the job nobody wanted and everybody paid for. The WMS gave us a live rate, the invoice came back with surcharges that rate never showed, and if we did not catch them and bill them back, that money wasgone.Velix automates the part of the business that cost us the most and that we had the least time for.”

True cost per SKU. A blended average shipping rate hides the economics of individual products. Reconciliation attributes real transportation cost to each SKU, order, customer, channel, and fulfillment location. This is usually where a Brands discovers that a product that's cheap to make is expensive to ship, once dimensional weight, packaging, destination, service level, and accessorials are factored in. It's the difference between treating shipping as one undifferentiated expense and actually knowing your margin.

Apples-to-apples comparisons. Carriers quote differently, bill differently, and apply accessorials differently, so comparing published base rates alone can point you to the wrong carrier. Reconciliation puts actual billed cost and service performance on the same footing: cost per delivered package, on-time delivery, transit-time variability, exception rates, claims, invoice accuracy, all alongside the nominal rate. The goal isn't finding the cheapest carrier. It's understanding the total cost of the service you're actually getting, and negotiating from evidence instead of a gut feeling.

Dispute trends and contract leakage. A duplicate charge or one bad accessorial fee looks like a one-off error. Patterned across a few months of invoices, the same issues start pointing to a real problem, in a carrier relationship, a contract, a package-data process, or a billing workflow. The usual suspects: duplicate charges, accessorials applied when the contract conditions weren't met, dimensional-weight discrepancies, rate or contract-version mismatches, premium service billed but not delivered, and credits that were approved but never applied. For Brands, this surfaces the shipping costs buried in fulfillment. For 3PLs, it makes pass-through billing easier to validate, cuts manual finance work, and gives you real evidence for both customer and carrier conversations.
